So, the first several weeks we were married, I found that I was going to the grocery EVERY day. At first, it was fun. You know, go to the store, buy some food, go home, make some fancy meal for dinner, repeat. By the third week it was already getting tedious (or maybe I started my job, and had no time). I realized that I needed a game plan. Step one: get organized. I made a list of what I was going to be cooking that week and went out and bought it. This worked well until the week that I bought all our food for the week AND for Shabbos and nearly fainted from the bill (okay, I also bought a 4.5 pound brisket that week, which certainly didn’t help).
So now we’re eating at the two “family” restaurants in town (my in-laws and my husband’s grandparents) two or three times a week, then eating Shabbos leftovers and pasta/salad at home during the week. It’s much, much nicer. I don’t know what I’m going to do if we get our residency outside of Memphis!! But seriously, it’s a very nice arrangement, because if we don’t go over for something as essential as eating, we don’t see our family in town at all, and that’s a shame, especially if we move out of Memphis. We would regret it. Plus, they love having us over. So it’s win-win-win.
This all came to mind because in about three minutes, I’m going to go shopping for Shabbos. I’ll post my menu after I figure out what to make.
