Road Trips, Small Children, and no DVDs

I’ve written about taking long, long road trips with my family.  I’ve also written about my feelings on letting my kids watch DVDs (hint: I’m for it).  But putting the two together is an entirely different creature.  Maybe I’m just a little old school, fondly remembering the days when I would curl up with a book, or play something like this as my parents made the cross-country trek to our summer vacation spot.  Or maybe it’s just the fear that if I start letting my kids watch DVDs in the car they will never want to do anything else in the car.  Ever.

16 straight hours of video? Nooooooo thank you.

Either way, we’ve managed to do almost every long road trip (long being more than five hours) without using videos, and over at WhattoExpect.com (yes, like the What to Expect When You’re Expecting book series), I share some tips and tricks I’ve learned over the past few years.  I’d love it if you would pop over there and share your thoughts and experiences with road trips, small kids, and keeping everyone sane.
