I feel I can tell you guys this – I haven’t been in the mood to write. Not at all. But deadlines come regardless of my desire to create, and so Tuesday night found me sitting at my computer, trying to come up with something hopefully remotely meaningful and not too disjointed.
It turned out okay, but I still was consumed with self-doubt and a feeling of not-good-enough-ness.
Welcome to the brain of am impossible perfectionist who overthinks! Hahahaha.
Anyways, I think it’s a testament to the consistency of writing on a regular basis over the course of however many years (eight? nine?) that I was able to write this piece even though I wasn’t “feeling it” or “in the mood.”
Let that be a lesson of hope to all you creatives! Practice really does make a difference!
I hope you’ll find my latest piece for Hevria hopeful. I went to the source of all hope, Torah and our amazing Jewish heritage, to find some encouragement in this time of darkness. I hope it resonates with you, too. See you there!
Hi Rivki, just letting you know I appreciate this article. Nochum’s yartzeit is in Cheshvan so it resonates with me. Shifra

Thank you so much Shifra. Sending much love.
I go in and out of the mood for sure. Extra hard now with all that’s going on and some of the little things I want to write about seem so pointless. You know?
Exactly.
