It’s My Birthday!

Yep! It’s true! Today I am 37. It feels great. I’m probably gonna go out and buy some shoes.

The closer I get to 40 the more excited I get about life. It really does get better. However, society sends aging women some seriously messed up messages. Like what happened yesterday:

But whatever. I’ll continue rolling my eyes at the fact that nearly all facial creams are anti-wrinkle or some other anti-aging stuff. I want to look good, of course, but dude, aging means I’m still alive, and I like that. I like being alive. Alive is good. Getting older is good.

Anyways, as my birthday gift to you all, here is a longform Hevria piece that went up yesterday. I really enjoyed writing it, I hope you enjoy reading it. It’s pretty long, but it’s cool if you space out while reading it. That’s also a birthday gift for ya.

I’ll also leave you a couple songs. This first one I was inspired to listen to again after writing my Hevria piece. The inspiration for the other one should be obvious.

Have an excellent day!

  1. Happy birthday! I want to read your Hevria piece, but life is pretty crazy for me at the moment (in a good way, thankfully). I’ll try over the weekend.

  2. Happy Birthday, Rivki! And thank you so much for your incredible piece on Hevria. I need broke down several times reading it (in the best possible way) and am so glad I read it today. I was thrilled to see you use the word ‘twizzling’! I’ve only ever come across it once before, in Helen Cresswell’s wonderful children’s fantasy novel ‘The Secret World of Polly Flint’. That is a world I like to visit. And if it weren’t for the fact that it’s 11.30pm here in Scotland right now I’d be heading out for a long walk. I need to walk and you have reminded me of why – thank you for this and for being honest, courageous, fabulous you. x

tell me about it!
